discUSH Family Retreat

discUSH Family Retreat

We are very happy to announce our discUSH Family Week initiative for Summer 2021. We look forward to continuing our traditional discUSH Family Program and USHthis Summer Youth Camp in the future.

In planning USHthis 2021 we have taken into consideration government guidelines and the safety concerns of parents. After looking at all possible eventualities, we believe we have created a fabulous opportunity for kids to go to camp AND for parents to feel safe sending them…because they will be right there with them!

USHyouth
(ages 11-17)

Youth, ages 11-17 with Usher syndrome, will be fully engaged in the summer camp experience; immersing themselves in all activities led by our dedicated team of counselors. There will be swimming, boating, archery, field games, team building, campfires, s’mores, and more.

Campers will return to their cabins after the evening activity in time for everyone to attend the family campfire. Optional family activities, such as an outdoor movie, will be posted on the daily schedule. There’ll be singing at meal times, sunrise swims, sunset hikes, camp friends, camp stories, camp dogs and of course camp swag!

discUSHions

Our discUSHions will be facilitated by our Ava's Voice Ambassadors and our USHthis Strength Coach, Rebecca Alexander. Rebecca is a psychotherapist and author, born in Berkeley, California, and currently residing in New York City. Rebecca wrote the book Not Fade Away about living with Usher syndrome type III. Throughout the weekend, families will have an opportunity to connect with Rebecca and our ambassadors in small group discussions about topics ranging from diagnosis to self care and advocacy.
