New Jersey

While Ava’s Voice programs are national and global initiatives, we are committed to strengthen the Usher syndrome community in our home state of New Jersey. Our goal is the elevate the voices of individuals with Usher syndrome and their families to advance services and programs to meed the needs of our local community.

We are ecstatic to welcome the newest member of our team, Carolyn Bradfield, who serves as our new Community Engagement Coordinator that is focused on spearheading our local initiatives. Carolyn works closely with our local NJ Usher Syndrome Coalition Ambassador, Chris Bakker, to collectively build our NJ USH family.

By facilitating connections, gathering insights, and responding to the unique needs of our community, Ava’s Voice ensures no one feels isolated. Being selected as the NJASC State Charity for the 2024-2025 school year presents an exciting opportunity to engage even more deeply, leveraging local resources to directly benefit New Jersey individuals with Usher syndrome and their families.

Bridging Connections: NJDBCC is a collective effort led by Ava’s Voice Inc. and Shore O&M. The mission of Bridging Connections: NJ’s DeafBlind Community Council is to foster collaboration and communication between individuals who are DeafBlind, their families, community organizations, and agency/service providers. The Council will serve as an inclusive advisory body, bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders committed to meeting the needs of our community members.

2024-2025 NJASC State Charity

Over the years, Ava has served in a leadership position on student government in her local school district. As a high school student she valued the leadership opportunities provided through NJASC. After presenting at the Leadership Training Conference held at The College of New Jersey, Ava was encuraged by her peers to apply to be the next state charity. Each year, student leaders at our member schools raise thousands of dollars for a special State Charity that is chosen by their State Officers each April. Ava’s Voice is proud to be the 2024-2025 NJASC State Charity.

This opportunity aligned perfectly with our mission to educate school communities. Over the years, Ava and USHbrothers, Ethan and Gavin, presented to local school communities to educate their peers and raise awareness across the state. These experiences also helped them develop age appropriate skills to build thier confidence and increase their understanding about their diagnosis and needs over the years.

Having the support of student councils across the state expands our reach to raise awareness about Usher syndrome. Thank you NJASC members!
