Behind the scenes, they ensure camp runs smoothly—implementing the schedule, supporting the crUSH it team with chore responsibilities, and making sure everyone is happy and well-fed. Julie Roraback

The USHthis Camp Nurse is a certified nurse with specialized experience working with individuals with Usher syndrome. Understanding that bumps and bruises can be common, especially for those with vestibular challenges, the Nurse is onsite throughout the full duration of camp to ensure the safety and well-being of both campers and mentors. With a warm and approachable demeanor, the Camp Nurse provides support as participants take on new challenges, making informed decisions about when additional care may be needed off-site. Their presence ensures that everyone feels secure and cared for while pushing boundaries and exploring new opportunities.

Nancy O’Donnell

The Historical Consultant for USHthis brings years of experience working with the Deafblind (DB) community and plays a critical role in shaping both program development and the onsite experience. The consultant challenges team members to consider all aspects of decision-making, ensuring that every part of the program is accessible and inclusive. They use their extensive knowledge to educate participants about Usher syndrome, its history, practical information, and available community resources. With a welcoming and calm demeanor, the consultant creates a safe space where participants feel comfortable exploring any topic related to Usher syndrome, empowering them with the knowledge and confidence to navigate their unique experiences.

Kera Freeman

The Communications Coordinator for USHthis serves as the essential liaison between participants, families, and the camp team, ensuring a smooth and supportive experience before and during camp. With a strong background in working with children and families, the Coordinator provides all necessary information to prepare families and participants, addressing questions and easing concerns along the way. Their role includes collecting pre- and post-camp data, managing required documentation, and ensuring seamless communication throughout travel and during the camp week. By fostering clarity and reassurance, the Communications Coordinator helps families, campers, and team members feel confident and connected every step of the way.

Caitlin Musumeci

The USHthis crUSH it. Team Coordinator plays a vital role in ensuring a seamless and impactful camp experience. They oversee the crUSH it. Team members, with a primary focus on preparing mentors both leading up to camp and throughout the experience. The Coordinator provides training to onsite staff, ensuring mentors have access to critical environmental information for informed decision-making. Overseeing the Program Access Liaisons and acting as a liaison between the crUSH it. Team and the dream it. Team, the Coordinator ensures that programming adjustments are addressed and camper needs are communicated effectively. Their leadership ensures every mentor and camper has the support they need to thrive.

The USHthis Strength Coach is dedicated to providing emotional support for all participants, creating a safe and uplifting environment throughout the camp experience. They guide participants in exploring their understanding of their Usher syndrome diagnosis while placing greater emphasis on helping them discover their unique identity and strengths as individuals. Through purposeful games and activities, the Strength Coach fosters meaningful conversations, self-discovery, and the development of strategies to recharge and build resilience. By empowering participants to recognize their strengths, the Strength Coach ensures they transition back to their local communities feeling confident, connected, and ready to thrive.

The Camp Director’s primary role is to deliver an authentic and memorable traditional camp experience for all participants. They oversee mentors, guiding them to develop the leadership skills expected of traditional American camp counselors, ensuring camper needs are met and prioritized. Bringing the teapot, the Biggest of BIG hand, the perfect circle, and boundless joy, the Camp Director creates an environment where participants feel an immediate sense of connection and belonging, setting the stage for lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories.
